That’s exactly why we developed our new DB320 Deck Box. Manufactured from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP), the DB320 combines a strong, clean-looking design with a generous 320-litre storage capacity, making it a versatile solution for domestic, commercial and marine applications.

At NJT Composites, we believe that buying a quality product shouldn’t mean paying over the odds simply because it’s intended for marine use. As with our wider product range, we wanted to create a deck box that meets our usual high manufacturing standards while remaining affordable and accessible to our customers.

From Workshop Design to Finished Product
As with many of our products, the DB320 began life in our own workshops in Cheshire.
We started by producing an MDF pattern in-house, allowing us to refine the dimensions, proportions and design features before committing to the production mould. Getting this stage right is essential, helping us achieve the finish, fit and functionality we want from the finished product.
Once the pattern had been developed and the mould produced and checked, we were ready to manufacture the first DB320 using the traditional hand-lay laminating technique employed across our GRP product range.
This hands-on manufacturing process allows us to focus on the quality and consistency of the finished component, creating a deck box that looks as good as it performs.
320 Litres of Storage – With Added Practicality
With 320 litres of capacity, the DB320 offers plenty of room for the equipment, tools and accessories that can otherwise end up cluttering valuable space.
However, during the design process, we recognised another opportunity to make the box even more useful.
Its height makes the lid a natural candidate for use as an additional table or worksurface – particularly handy when you’re working aboard a boat, where space is often at a premium.
Rather than leave this as an afterthought, we designed the lid to withstand an evenly distributed load of up to 100kg. That means the DB320 can offer more than just storage, providing a useful extra surface for those smaller jobs and everyday tasks around the boat, or to put your drinks and nibbles on for those relaxed evenings onboard.
It’s a simple but effective feature that adds genuine versatility to the product.
Designed for Outdoor and Marine Environments
A deck box needs to do more than look good. It needs to cope with life outdoors, where exposure to the elements and regular use can put materials and fittings to the test.
The DB320’s GRP construction provides a robust, practical enclosure, while the non-GRP fixings and fittings – including hinges, latches, nuts and bolts – are manufactured from stainless steel. This helps minimise maintenance requirements and makes the box well suited to outdoor use.
We’ve also paid attention to the lid design. Rather than relying solely on a simple meeting edge, the lid overlaps an inner lip incorporated into the moulding. This helps reduce the potential for water ingress while maintaining the box’s clean, streamlined appearance.
It’s another example of how considered design details can make a difference to the performance and usability of the finished product.
